Colin McPherson is a Scottish/German documentary photographer who has been based on Merseyside for the last 20 years.

Date: Tuesday 3rd March
Time: 7pm (doors 6.30pm)
Location: Upstairs in the Gallery at Oriel Colwyn
Colin McPherson's career in photography began in local newspapers in his native Edinburgh before he moved on to working for regional and national newspapers and magazines, including for over 20 years the Independent and the Independent on Sunday until they ceased print publication in 2016. He subsequently exhibited a series of photos and cuttings from his time with at the newspapers at Oriel Colwyn in 2017, and we are thrilled to invite Colin back to talk about his work at this special Talk Photo.
Colin specialises in long-term projects, including Catching the Tide, a series documenting salmon net fishing in Scotland which he began in 1996 that has been published and exhibited internationally.

Colin is currently running a Kickstarter campaign with Dewi Lewis to publish a book of images from the project this summer. You can find out more about the Kickstarter campaign and help bring it to life HERE
Spanning the last thirty years, Catching the Tide is a lyrical portrayal of salmon net fishing in Scotland. Through his photography, Colin introduces us to the men he met and worked with over three decades as they strived to make a living from a way of life that stretches back many generations and which has all but disappeared from the country’s coastal communities today.

Colin has also built up a substantial archive of images of football culture through his work for the monthly magazine When Saturday Comes. This work was published in 2024 alongside colleagues Paul Thompson and Simon Gill in At The Match, a compendium of photographs taken over the last two decades.

TALK PHOTO is a fortnightly evening social event in Oriel Colwyn’s gallery space, where invited speakers are here IN PERSON to share presentations and insights about their work or projects, with a friendly intimate audience.
Audience tickets are issued on a first come, first served basis.
