Homer Sykes Exhibition Prints

Unique Exhibition Prints

Thanks to the kind generosity of photographer Homer Sykes, we are thrilled to open our new Oriel Colwyn webshop with a unique opportunity to purchase the prints directly from Homer's Blitz Club Kids & Heaven - The 1980's New Romantics Exhibition.

Each image will come directly from the exhibition wall at the close of the exhibition; there is only 1 copy of each image. Prints are unframed and sized at 50cm x 40cm, they contain a white boarder with a central image size of approx 40cm x 27cm. Printed on 310gsm heavyweight 100 percent cotton rag archival acid and lignin-free paper, using archival pigment inks, the prints are priced at £50 each which is split evenly between Homer and a donation to the gallery towards its continued work.

Prints are sold unsigned to allow an affordable price - each unique print is gallery stamped and hand dated on reverse and comes with a certificate of authenticity as a 1 of 1 Oriel Colwyn exhibition print.  You can collect prints directly from the gallery or add a postage option at checkout. Prints will be shipped rolled in a secure tube if you choose postal option.

Thanks for stopping by, and we hope you find a new piece of Blitz Club history for your own wall.

"Amelia Lonsdale writes in 2017. The Space Cadet is Dennis Sheldrick, he was in a band called Wonder Stories with fashion designer Keanan Duffty. He worked at the steel works in Scunthorpe, my mum (Yvonne Taylor) worked at Doncaster council. They were into art, my mum studied fashion at college but that’s as far as it goes. They made most of their own clothes and would wear them out at places such as The Blitz but also at many more clubs up north. The woman dancing with him in what seems to be a matching outfit is called Denise King. The costume was an overall from his work that he customised, my mum made the cummerbund out of satin, mainly influenced by Bowie's Space Oddity and Kraftwerk. They were invited down to London to Billy's by Steve Strange and Rusty Egan when they were in the band Rich Kids and after that they would go once a month to London for one nighters."

STEVE STRANGE BLITZ CLUB LONDON 1980'S "Covent Garden, London, England circa February 1980. The Blitz Kids at the Blitz Club were a group of people who frequented the Tuesday club-night in Covent Garden from 1979-80. They are credited with launching the New Romantic subcultural movement. There was an emphasis on style that was ensured by enforcing a strict dress code at the door. Crucially, the Blitz lay between two art colleges (St Martin's School and Central School) and it became a testbed for student fashion designers who set London ablaze during the 1980s. The club was decked out in Second World War posters and thus the Club’s name."
