MAP6 Photography Collective is a group of 10 photographers working together to make group projects about the complex relationships between people and places. At the heart of the group is collaboration, which takes many forms – from working together when picture-making to editing each other’s images.

As a collective they are informed by their diverse photographic styles and unique visions: each photographer’s approach is informed by a need to document and understand the complex nuances that give a place its unique characteristics, and how these reflect and inform what is happening in the wider world.

They have exhibited in the UK and Europe, including at The Helsinki Photo Festival, Vilnius Photographers Gallery and Milton Keynes Art Gallery. They have worked with guest photographers, speakers, curators, writers, cultural organisations and publishers. Since its formation in 2012 the collective has experimented with, and deepened its understanding of, what artistic collaboration looks like – both as individuals and as a group.

WALES: The Landscape Project explores different aspects of the Welsh landscape. Working in pairs, and one group of three, MAP6 responded to four set themes: The Dark Sublime, Parallel Time, Hiraeth (a deep longing for home), and Chapels & Quarries. This involved making images in the same location and coming together at the end to create a joint narrative, from which they then created a zine that MAP6 published as a set. MAP6 later gained another member who also went to Wales, creating the project Battery in the Mountain, which explores how her work converges with the zines project.

The exhibition opens on Friday 9th January with a special Talk Photo event with four members of the collective - For tickets (free or donation based) please see details in the EVENTS section of our website.
