Location: Upstairs in the Gallery at Oriel Colwyn
Talk Photo returns on Friday 9th January with a special event to coincide with the opening of the Map6 exhibition in the main gallery space. The talk will include presentations by four members of the Map6 collective, David Sterry, Barry Falk, Richard Chivewrs and Rich Cutler.
David Sterry
David Sterry's photography is founded in his lifelong passion and association with buildings and their lifecycles. His photographic approach is essentially about the ‘here and now’, about the paraphernalia of life as expressed though architecture: – their structure, their massing, the streets they inhabit and all the spaces and things in-between.

Barry Falk

Barry Falk explores a range of subjects related to the psychological sense of self. His work often seeks to capture a certain state of mind, akin to Freud’s notion of the unheimliche: something familiar which has become alienated through the process of repression. He has documented places that have undergone collective trauma and loss, focussing on Eastern Europe to consider his own personal identity and to explore how certain locations hold a sense of collective loss related to atrocity. He has also documented key science research centres, asking the questions of what it means to be conscious, sentient and human.

Rich Cutler

Rich Cutler is a photographic artist fascinated by time and symbolism, and fractures and commonalities between the historical and the present, and tensions between the sciences and the arts. His cardinal subjects are technology and the environment. What draws him to science lies also at the heart of his fascination with art: their common drive to explore and understand ourselves and the world.

Richard Chivers

Richard Chivers is a documentary photographer whose work broadly looks at the British landscape and how it is shaped and re-shaped over time. His work examines rural, industrial and urban spaces, combining history, geography, architecture and social themes that convey the complex nature of the British landscape. Richard uses photography as a descriptive medium, looking at spaces where nature and the built environment collide within industrial spaces such as quarries, or in a political urban context such as disappearing social housing.
